What is otoplasty?

Plastic surgery of ears – otoplasty is a surgery of prominent or deformed earlobes. The earlobes can be operated after they are fully grown, i.e. after 6 years of life. Otoplasty helps young people to integrate into the society. By some people otoplasty helps to remove long-time handicap.

Performance - otoplasty

The incision is lead on the backside of ear, so the final scar is not visible. The skin is loosened and the cartilage is adjusted by grinding. The earlobe is then pulled closer to the head into a suitable position.

The otoplasty takes approximately one hour and is performed under local anaesthesia. Light form of general anaesthesia is also possible according to patient´s wishes.

After otoplasty

• after the surgery a bandage is put around ears for 10-14 days the earlobes must be protected with a headband for another month during night and also sport activities
• the earlobes must be protected with a headband for another month during night and also sport activities
• this surgery is an outpatient surgery or with one-day hospitalization
