Cosmetic Surgery of Hydrocele Testis
The testicle is placed in the scrotum in covers. There is not much fluid between the testicle and the membranes. If there is right proportion between the creation and absorption of this fluid, the shape and volume of male scrotum is natural.
With ageing process the proportion might change, the membranes are not able to absorb the fluid. One- or both-sided enlarged scrotum is the result. The volume increases in time. Problem is besides cosmetic appearance also slight pain, pulling complications and limits in certain movement or swimsuit wear.
If there is no other reason for the excess of the fluid in the scrotum (tumors or testicle inflammations must be pre-surgically eliminated with ultrasound), simple cosmetic procedure can be indicated. It permanently returns the size of the scrotum into original appearance and leaves practically no signs.
Performance of plastic surgery of hydrocele testis
The procedure precedes already mentioned ultrasound examination. The surgery is performed under short general or spinal anaesthesia. One day hospitalization is recommended, it can be exceptionally performed as an outpatient procedure.
The approach is lead through short longitudinal incision on the scrotum. We proceed through the layers to the membranes of testicle. They are pierced and the excessive fluid is released. After that a cosmetic reduction of the covers is performed, they are twisted and the testicle is put back. The wound is closed by each layer with absorbable suturing material, the skin is sewed with absorbable or nonabsorbable suture.
Drain can be inserted for 24 hours, after that it is removed. The wound is sterilely covered and the next day it is changed. The healing process takes 7-10 days.
Advantages of the procedure
- immediate and permanent aesthetic effect
- protection of the testicle against compression by hydrocele
